The Idea
OPEN LAB: Science lab classes are to teach you to put your classroom knowledge and the scientific method to the test. This is why the instructor does not give you answers or check your work most of the time, but you are responsible for checking your answers and asking questions. It is your responsibility to work together and with the instructor to to find the answers through experiments and experience in the lab and this is as close to the real world as you get in school! I will not tell you the answers, but I will discuss the concepts and help you search for the answers in your lab manual, text book, or the internet, so you can guide yourself to the answers and let you know if you have found it. This teaches you important skills for the future; critical thinking and logic, to discern information, and application of the scientific method. It is important to develop good lab practices and the ability to guide yourself to any place your curiosity leads.
This should be near to the LAST time you study these labs. To prepare yourself beforehand, here are tips and tricks for studying!

EXPERIENCE
Senior Instructional Assistant, STEM at Santa Rosa Junior College - College Skills Department ::::: September 2017 to present
Looking to broaden my skill set and help more students through the College Skills Department. I tutor students in Biology, Chemistry, and Math.
Science Lab Instructional Assistant at Santa Rosa Junior College - Biological Sciences Department::::: June, 2015 to present
I learn just as much every year as my students. I am always looking to improve myself and look for more impactful ways to assist students in their academic success. I am heavily involved with Biology and Microbiology lab classes at SRJC. From design, writing and testing the experiments, to in-class instructor and student assistance. I allow for the department to flow seamlessly and facilitate valuable hands-on laboratory instruction.
Research Intern at The Buck Institute for the Research on Aging - Kennedy Lab ::: 2014 to 2015
A super fun lab rat internship, under the direct guidance of Dr. Mark McCormick in the Kennedy Lab. We deleted genes, I mean a lot of genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae with the goal of studying the effect of gene deletion on lifespan.
Teacher at Head Start / Jump Start - Taipei, Taiwan ::: 2005 to 2010
I taught grade school to high school level ESL and Science in Taipei, Taiwan. I also assisted in writing, development, and execution of the school Science curriculum.
Research at Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies ::: 2004
Under the instruction and guidance of Dr. Carlos Crocker and graduate student, Rosalee M. Nguyen from San Francisco State University, I assisted on a project to study the effects of substrate composition on foraging success and behavior of larval green sturgeon Acipenser medirostris. I later wrote my senior thesis based on this experience.
C.U.R.E. (Curriculum-Based Undergraduate Research Experience) on Sudden Oak Death at Sonoma State University ::: 2003 and 2004
Data Collection for the study of and the impacts from Sudden Oak Death. This gave me experience and confidence to find my own research experience outside of my school.
ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology
Sonoma State University ::: 2005
Associate of Science - General Education
Santa Rosa Junior College ::: 2002
OTHER THINGS ABOUT ME
I like animals, I like to hike, to be outdoors, music, and I love to travel. I firmly believe that there are just too many places to travel to in this world. I'm pretty curious about the world as a whole and I really believe that it is a quality that brought me to the Biological Sciences. I love finding out how things work and I still ask "why?" all the time. I love to share these things and learn from the people around me.
