All students are welcome to enroll in this class and this section will have extra support for the Lanzamiento initiative, designed to support academic achievement among Latinx and first-generation college students. Students who enroll in Lanzamiento sections have dedicated resources available to them, including: academic counseling, peer tutoring and success coaching, library support, mental health services, financial aid workshops, and opportunities to learn about transferring to a four-year university. Themes of bilingualism, transnational experiences, immigrant communities, Latinx authorship, academic scholarship, and activism are relevant to the Lanzamiento initiative. I have been teaching at SRJC for 13 years. Before SRJC, I taught Health Education and Exercise Science at a community college in San Diego. I have a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology (emphasis Fitness, Nutrition, and Health) and a Master's degree in Exercise Physiology (emphasis in Public Health) from San Diego State University. I am certified through ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) as an Exercise Physiologist. I have my Mat Pilates Certification through Balanced Body and a Certified Health Coach with NSHC (National Society of Health Coaches).  I just completed my Pilates Reformer training and currently working on my apparatus training with Balanced Body to complete my comprehensive Pilates certification. 

I also am a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher.  I earned my 200 hour RYT in Integrative Yoga Therapy  in June 2010 after completing a 10 month, 200 hour YTT  locally at Bodyworks Yoga Studio w/Jean Grant-Sutton  in Petaluma (moved to POST Wellness by Design now).  I completed my 300 hour advanced YTT (Shamanic Awakening) with Kula Collective in the Sacred Valley of Peru August 2018 as a month long intensive.  My favorite physical activity growing up was dance.  I've taught group exercise classes since high school and was a personal trainer throughout college and beyond.

Currently, my teaching schedule each term includes a variety of fitness based classes such as Mat Pilates, Yoga, Body Conditioning, Weight Training, Cardio Kickboxing, or Boot Camp and lecture classes such as Principles of Health and Wellness, Introduction to Kinesiology, Yoga Teaching Methodology,  Anatomy and Physiology for Yoga Teachers, and Techniques of Fitness Instruction.

I am the program coordinator for the SRJC 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Program and also the Certificate Program in Fitness, Nutrition, and Health. for students wanting to become fitness instructors or personal trainers. I also oversee the Kinesiology program at the Petaluma Campus. I currently serve as a representative for the Academic Senate at SRJC. I continue to take courses, certifications, and workshops each year to stay up-to-date in Yoga, Pilates, Kinesiology, and Wellness. I also teach in the community at a local fitness center in Petaluma, Synergy Health Club. I have a passion for making my classes inclusive and accessible for all levels and bodies, emphasizing proper body mechanics, modifications for injuries, and most importantly to have fun while enjoying a safe and effective session.
