πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Teaching & Professional Experience

I began teaching as a dance instructor in high school and have taught group fitness classes since age 17. I have also worked as a personal trainer throughout college and beyond. I have been a full-time Kinesiology professor for over 20 years.

My courses include activity-based classes such as Mat Pilates, Yoga, and Body Conditioning, as well as lecture and training courses including Principles of Health and Wellness, Introduction to Kinesiology, Techniques of Fitness Instruction, Anatomy and Physiology for Yoga Teachers, Applied Kinesiology and Anatomy, and Pilates Mat, Reformer, and Apparatus Instructor Training.

I am the Program Coordinator for the Pilates Comprehensive Instructor Certificate Program, the Fitness and Health Coach Certificate, and previously for the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program. Developing these programs with my colleagues has been one of the proudest accomplishments of my career.

I also teach at Active Wellness Center in Petaluma. My classes there include: Body Fit, Yoga/Pilates Fusion, and Pilates Reformer

🏫 Leadership & Service

In addition to teaching, I currently serve as:

  • Department Chair – Kinesiology, Athletics, & Dance
  • Area Representative β€“ Academic Senate
  • Co-Chair – District Online Education Committee
  • Treasurer - CCCPEKD (California Community College Physical Education, Kinesiology, and Dance) Association

🌱 Teaching Philosophy

I am passionate about creating inclusive, accessible, and welcoming learning environments where all students feel supported, valued, and capable of success. Whether in movement-based teacher training courses or academic lecture classes, my goal is to help students develop confidence, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of themselves and the subject matter.

In activity and teacher training courses, I emphasize proper body mechanics, injury-informed modifications, safe and effective movement, and practical skills that students can apply in their personal and professional lives.

In lecture-based courses, I hope to make course content relevant, meaningful, and applicable to students' lives and future goals. I encourage critical thinking, active participation, and the connection of evidence-based theory to real-world experiences.

I value student feedback and view teaching as a collaborative learning process. I truly hope students leave my courses with both knowledge and a curiosity and enthusiasm for continued lifelong learning and growth.
