Personal Fitness Training -- : Jan 18 - May 19 2023
This open entry/open exit course allows students to use the Fitness Center Gym on either the Petaluma Campus (PC805) or Santa Rosa Campus (Room 615) during scheduled open gym hours for their participation credit (35 total hours required for 1 unit class, 52.5 hours for 1.5 unit class) to achieve their fitness goals. Course assignments will be completed online through CANVAS.

I have been teaching at SRJC for 14 years. Before SRJC, I taught Health Education and Exercise Science at a community college in San Diego. I have a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology (emphasis Fitness, Nutrition, and Health) and Master's degree in Exercise Physiology (emphasis in Public Health) both from San Diego State University. I am currently enrolled in a Doctoral program at SF State in Educational Leadership (Social Justice and Equity).
I am an E-500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, Lead Teacher Trainer, and co-founded the SRJC 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program with Andrea Thomas. I earned my 200-hour RYT in Integrative Yoga Therapy in June 2010 after completing a 10-month, 200-hour YTT locally at Bodyworks Yoga Studio w/Jean Grant-Sutton in Petaluma (moved to POST Wellness by Design now) and have been teaching yoga ever since. I expanded my yoga training by completing my 300-hour advanced YTT (Shamanic Awakening) with Kula Collective in the Sacred Valley of Peru August 2018 as a month long intensive and completed a 50-hour Yin Yoga Training December 2021.
I am also certified through ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) as an Exercise Physiologist, Comprehensive Pilates Instructor Certification through Balanced Body, and a Certified Health Coach with NSHC (National Society of Health Coaches).
I started my teaching career as a studio dance instructor in high school, taught group fitness classes since I was 17 years old, and was a personal trainer throughout college.
Currently, my teaching schedule each term includes a variety of fitness based classes such as Mat Pilates, Yoga, Body Conditioning, Weight Training, Cardio Kickboxing, or Boot Camp and lecture classes such as Principles of Health and Wellness, Introduction to Kinesiology, Yoga Teaching Methodology, Anatomy and Physiology for Yoga Teachers, or Techniques of Fitness Instruction.
I am the program coordinator for the SRJC 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training ProgramLinks to an external site., the Certificate Program in Fitness, Nutrition, and HealthLinks to an external site., and the new Pilates Comprehensive Instructor Program launching fall 2023. I am the current department chair for the Kinesiology, Athletics, and Dance department, serve as a representative for the Academic Senate at SRJC, and the co-chair for the District Online Education Committee.
I continue to take courses, certifications, and workshops each year to stay up-to-date in Yoga, Pilates, Kinesiology, and Health. I also teach in the community, currently at a local fitness center in Petaluma, Active Wellness Club. I enjoy working hard and keeping busy. It's taken me years and years to add on and accomplish new certifications and degrees but I love learning and growing! I also really love teaching and I have a passion for making my activity classes inclusive and accessible for all levels and bodies, emphasizing proper body mechanics, modifications for injuries, and most importantly to have fun while enjoying a safe and effective session.
