I took a double major (two B.A.s) in English and Religious Studies from the
University of the Pacific in 1968; I followed these with a Master's Degree and
a Doctor of Arts, both in English literature, from the University of Oregon.
Finally,in 1977,I completed my formal education with a Ph.D. in English literature from U.O.
Academic Experience
Since 1971, I have taught college-level composition and literature
courses, both full and part-time, at College of the Redwoods, Humboldt State,
University of Oregon, Youngstown State University, Western Washington State,
Sonoma State, and Santa Rosa Junior College.
I am a native northern Californian, born in Oroville and educated
at U.O.P. in Stockton. However, I travelled widely as a child and young person,
living in Alaska, Colorado, Missouri, Germany, and again in San Francisco.
I consider myself a native of Santa Rosa, since I have lived here now for
twenty years, raised my children here, and buried my parents here.
Professional Areas of Interest
My doctoral work was on the British Romantic poets, especially on
William Wordsworth, and I continue to be personally and professionally interested in poetry of all kinds, but I am most engaged in teaching
composition at developmental, regular, and advanced levels.
