I grew up in San Francisco and moved to Marin County in 1960. I have a BA degree in Business Management from Sonoma State University and an AS degree in Fire Science from College of Marin. I started in the Fire Service, as a volunteer fire fighter in 1965 and joined the San Rafael Fire Department as a full time employee in 1974. In the San Rafael Fire Department I held the positions of Firefighter, Engineer, Training Officer, Captain and Division Chief (Operations). As a Operations Chief, I had the responsibility for six fire fire companies and two paramedic transport ambulances and was routinely the Incident Commander on Structure, Wildland, EMS and Hazardous Material Incidents. As additional assignments I had responsibility for the Marin County Hazardous Material Team, Department Payroll, Fire Hydrants, Administrative Services, Federal Homeland Security Grants and Protective Clothing. I became interested in Hazardous Materials in 1985 and started teaching Hazardous Material response classes shortly after that time. I assisted in the founding of the Marin County Hazardous Material Team in 1986 and was the Team Chief for the Team from 1997 through 2004.

I have been teaching Fire Technology Classes since 2006 (Fire 77, Hazmat for Public Safety and Fire 71, Fire Service Organization, Fire 74, Fire Protection Systems & Equipment) and occasionally classes for the SRJC Fire Academy. I have a small consulting business providing Hazardous Material, Fire Training and Emergency Planing Services for public agencies and private business.
