Basic Clinical Skills for Medical Assisting -- : Aug 23 - Dec 13 2017
ORIENTATION & SKILL PACK PICK UP on Mon, August 21, 2017, 8am to 12pm, Race Building, Skills Lab. Please contact Katherine Slusser at kslusser@santarosa.edu to get instructions on how to order your clinical skills supplies pack. This skill pack costs $282.36 and is used for MA 163 and MA 165 in Fall 2017, and in MA 174 in Spring 2018. One you have purchased your skills pack, please bring your payment receipt to the Orientation. Without this payment receipt, your skill pack will not be released to you. Please wear the entire uniform to the Orientation as described here: Uniform Dress Code Requirements. You will be given your ID badges at the Orientation. Bring something to take notes with - either paper and pen, or an electronic device. Before the Orientation, please buy 1 order of the following Small Stackable Totes (1 order comes with 3 totes), cost is roughly $7. Label each tote with the following: “First and Last Name, SRJC MA Student”, and bring them to Orientation. Buying 1 set of 3 totes will be good for use in MA 163 and MA 165 in Fall 2017, and MA 174 in Spring 2018.

Clinical Internship -- : Aug 21 - Dec 15 2017
This class meets every Thursday at the assigned onsite clinic from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Due to blood and body fluid exposure during skills lab, and because of the health requirements of the healthcare facilities in which students are placed for their intern/externships, all students must comply with the entry requirements, before being able to register for the class. These requirements can be found here: Health Requirements. The deadline for all the requirements to be met is by Fri, May 26, 2017. Once the requirements are met, please contact Katherine Slusser at kslusser@santarosa.edu, and your name will be placed on the official Eligibility List. Then, follow the SRJC registration process to register for the class. Additional fees: The fee for purchasing the tracker package through CastleBranch is $104, and the SRJC MA skills lab supply fee is $282.36. Phlebotomy -- : May 30 - Aug 03 2017
MANDATORY ORIENTATION on Thurs, 4/27/17, 5-9pm in Race, 4044. Due to blood and body fluid exposure during skills lab, and because of the health requirements of the healthcare facilities in which students are placed for their externships, all students must comply with all of the following before they are given an add code to register for the class: 1) Negative urine drug screen (done by CastleBranch - can take up to 4 weeks to process once submitted). 2) Negative background check (done by CastleBranch - can take up to 4 weeks to process once submitted). 3) Clear health evaluation form (use 4 page SRJC form) 4) 2 Step PPD (Tuberculosis skin test). The 1st TB skin test is placed and read, then the 2nd test is placed and read from a week to a month later. (Do not have the MMR immunizations immediately before this test.) 5) Positive hepatitis B titer OR a complete hepatitis B series with positive titer after last dose (takes 6 months to complete). First 2 doses must be complete in order to receive the add code, and the 3rd dose must be complete before the student will be allowed to begin the onsite externship. 6) Positive varicella titer OR complete varicella series. 7) Complete series of Tdap vaccines (if given more than 10 years ago, booster must have been completed within the last 10 years). 8) Positive titer for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) OR a complete series of MMR vaccines. 9) Flu vaccine within the last 12 months. Declinations are not accepted unless there is a documented medical contraindication to the flu shot. 10) Pay a skills lab supply fee to pay for all training related phlebotomy supplies that are necessary for certification and completion of the class. This fee is $400. In order to get the drug screen and background check done, as well as submit all health documentation, students will be required to purchase a package code from CastleBranch. Externship: Medical Assisting -- : Jun 12 - Aug 12 2017
ORIENTATION on Thurs, 5/18/17, 5-7pm, in Race, 4035. The above section has 20.5 weekly hours by arrangement. Because of the health requirements of the healthcare facilities in which students are placed for their externships, all students must comply with all of the following before an add code will be given to the student to register for the class: 1) Negative urine drug screen (done by CastleBranch - can take up to 4 weeks to process once submitted). 2) Negative background check (done by CastleBranch - can take up to 4 weeks to process once submitted). 3) Clear health evaluation form (use 4-page SRJC form). 4) Current American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed ‘BLS Provider’ certification card (formerly known as ‘Healthcare Provider’). Must include AED, infant, child, adult. CPR cards without the AHA seal are NOT accepted. ‘Heartsaver’ card is NOT accepted. American Red Cross is NOT accepted. 5) Currency on all immunizations including: a) Positive hepatitis B titer OR a complete hepatitis B series with positive titer after last dose (takes 6 months to complete). First 2 doses must be complete in order to receive the add code, and the 3rd dose must be complete before the student will be allowed to begin the onsite internships/externships. b) 2 Step PPD (Tuberculosis skin test). In order to get the drug screen and background check done, as well as submit all health documentation, students will be required to purchase a package code from CastleBranch.
